Twenty five years ago today, Kathleen “Kit” Faragher was more than 1,600 miles from her Denver home, attending a work conference at the World Trade Center in New York City.
Kit was 33 years old and worked for Denver based Janus Capital. She lived near Washington Park and on the morning of September 11, 2001, was on the 106th floor of the North Tower when American Airlines Flight 11 struck the building. Her siblings spent the next two weeks searching hospitals and shelters, holding onto hope that somehow she had made it out.

Those who knew Kit remember much more than what happened to her that morning. She loved animals, ultimate frisbee and being around people. Her brother William remembered her contagious laugh and smile and described her as someone who could make just about anyone feel at home.
Her legacy is still being felt right here in Colorado. After her death, a scholarship was created in her memory and her family later formed the Kit Faragher Foundation. The foundation continues helping Colorado students pursue their education today. For the 2026 to 2027 school year, the foundation announced five scholarships worth $16,000 each for graduating Colorado high school students.
Today, on the 25th anniversary of September 11, we remember the 2,977 lives lost that day. Here in Denver, we also remember Kit. Not simply for how her life ended, but for the life she lived and the impact her name continues to have on Colorado 25 years later.
