Most kids flip through picture books before bed. A 5-year-old from Arvada was flipping through an airline training manual.
According to KUSA William Hines, who’s already known as a major aviation enthusiast, spotted an error in a Southwest Airlines training manual involving two terrain gauges that didn’t match. The discrepancy might have gone unnoticed by most adults, but not William. His sharp eye caught enough attention that it made its way up the chain — all the way to Southwest CEO Bob Jordan.

Instead of just a thank-you note, William received an invitation to visit Southwest’s headquarters. During the trip, he toured the facilities, climbed into a flight simulator, and got to play pilot for the day — not a bad reward for actually reading (and understanding) the manual.
For a kid who loves planes, it was the ultimate field trip — and proof that sometimes paying attention really does pay off.
