Aurora Resident Competes on New Season of Game Show ‘The Floor’

Aurora resident Kathy Zimmer is one of the contestants featured on the latest season of the game show ‘The Floor’, bringing her competitive spirit to a quiz show filled with unexpected twists.

Zimmer, who initially applied to a different game show with her entire family last year, didn’t make the cut.

“We got really far into the process and then we got a ‘no,’ and I was so bummed,” she said.

But shortly after, she received a call from a casting agent for The Floor, asking if she’d be interested in competing solo.

“I said, ‘Sure!’ and when they asked if I’d do it without my family, I said, ‘Even better,’” Zimmer joked.

A High-Stakes Competition in Ireland

In August, Zimmer was flown to Ireland to film the show, where she and 100 other contestants were sequestered together for the duration of the competition.

“It was like adult summer camp meets game show meets Hunger Games,” Zimmer explained.

The quiz-based competition featured high-pressure challenges, with participants facing immediate elimination upon losing.

“You come to the studio each day with your bags packed because if you lose, you’re sent home,” she said.

Despite her preparation, Zimmer admitted the experience was far more intense than watching from home—especially with Rob Lowe hosting.

“At home, you think, ‘Oh, that’s so easy,’ but when you’re there, under the lights, with Rob standing next to you, it’s nerve-wracking,” she said.

Friendships and Future Plans

While the competition was stressful, Zimmer says the experience fostered strong bonds among the contestants.

“Fifteen to twenty of them are coming out this summer to do a Spartan Race with me,” she said. “We’re having what we call a ‘Floor-mily’—a floor family—reunion.”

Zimmer cherishes her time on The Floor and hasn’t ruled out competing on another game show in the future.

You can catch Zimmer in action on The Floor, airing Wednesday at 8 p.m. on FOX31.
