Authorities in Delta County are investigating a tragic incident after a pedestrian was struck and killed by multiple vehicles early Sunday morning along U.S. Highway 50. According to the Delta County Sheriff’s Office, a 911 call came in just before 5 a.m. reporting a body on the side of the road near Starr Nelson Road, just outside the town of Delta. Deputies and local police arrived on scene and closed off the highway to begin their investigation.
Shortly after, the Colorado State Patrol received a separate call from a motorist who believed they may have hit someone. A CSP press release confirmed the individual had been struck by multiple vehicles, and two drivers have since come forward and are cooperating with the investigation. However, evidence at the scene suggests a third vehicle may have been involved, and investigators are now seeking additional witnesses or information.
The highway’s westbound lanes were initially expected to be closed until the early afternoon but reopened sooner than anticipated, around 11:25 a.m. Anyone who may have seen the incident or has relevant details is urged to contact the Colorado State Patrol Dispatch Center at 970-249-4392, referencing case number 5C250787.
