Police Investigate After Multiple Drivers Shot at on I-225 and I-25

Denver Police are investigating a series of random highway shootings that left at least five drivers targeted early Tuesday morning. One victim’s vehicle was struck 13 times in what appears to be an unprovoked attack.

According to police, a suspect opened fire on multiple vehicles between 1 a.m. and 2 a.m. on Interstate 225 in Aurora and Interstate 25 in Denver. While authorities have located the vehicle involved in the shootings, no arrests have been made.

Victim Describes Terrifying Encounter

One of the victims, Terrell Padilla, recounted the harrowing moment when he realized he was being targeted.

“I was coming home on I-225 when I saw a silhouette of a car approaching me,” Padilla said. “They pulled up beside me, and the next thing I knew, I heard a loud bang. My window shattered. I just took off because I didn’t know what they were shooting me with.”

Padilla sped northbound on I-25 to escape the gunfire. As bullets riddled his car, he stayed on the phone with 911, who directed him to a police station near South University Boulevard and I-25.

When he arrived safely, he counted 13 bullet holes in his vehicle. Despite the damage, he was uninjured.

Another victim, who wished to remain anonymous, reported a similar experience near South University Boulevard and East Iliff Avenue. Around 1:30 a.m., his vehicle was struck from behind before shots were fired.

Padilla emphasized that he does not believe road rage was a factor.

“I wasn’t antagonizing anyone. I was just driving normally in the middle lane, just trying to get home safely.”

Police Seek Public Help

Investigators are still working to determine what type of weapon was used, as no bullets were recovered from the victims’ vehicles.

Authorities urge anyone with information to contact Metro Denver Crime Stoppers at 720-913-7867 or visit metrodenvercrimestoppers.com. Tipsters can remain anonymous and may be eligible for a reward of up to $2,000.
