Hammond’s Candies: A Sweet Piece of Denver History
Founded in 1920 by Carl T. Hammond Sr., Hammond’s Candies began as a small family business in Denver, Colorado. Carl started out making his signature treat, “Carl’s Honey Ko Kos,” chocolate-dipped coconut sweets that quickly became a local favorite. Guided by his motto — “Nothing is more important than quality” — Hammond’s survived the Great Depression and grew into a beloved name across Colorado.

Over the decades, the company expanded its offerings to include handmade candy canes, lollipops, and caramel treats like the “Mitchell Sweet.” Even as it grew, Hammond’s stayed true to its roots — much of the candy is still made by hand using vintage equipment dating back to the early 1900s. In 2007, the factory moved to its current 35,000-square-foot facility on Washington Street, where visitors can still take free tours and watch candy being made.

Today, Hammond’s Candies produces millions of treats each year, sold in stores across the U.S. and abroad. From Christmas candy canes to gourmet chocolate bars, the company continues to blend nostalgia with craftsmanship — keeping a century-old Denver tradition alive and well.
