Colorado Rescuer Races to Save Injured Animal Found on Roadside
A dramatic animal rescue in Colorado recently unfolded when a Good Samaritan spotted what they believed to be a black-and-white dog lying injured by the roadside. Fearing the worst, they quickly alerted the Humane Society of the Pikes Peak Region’s Animal Law Enforcement division.
Officer Jones was dispatched to the scene, preparing to render aid to what was described as a distressed canine. Upon arriving, she immediately spotted the animal, appearing lifeless and vulnerable on the side of the road. But as she approached, she realized something was amiss.
Instead of a wounded dog, Officer Jones found herself face-to-face with a tiger—specifically, a stuffed tiger toy, the kind one might win at a carnival. The “injured animal” was no more than a plush toy left abandoned on the roadside, fooling the panicked caller and resulting in an amusing twist for the rescue team.
Not one to leave a “civilian” (or a polyester blend) in harm’s way, Officer Jones gently collected the stuffed tiger and placed it in her truck to ensure no further confusion. The Humane Society shared the lighthearted incident on Facebook, reminding everyone to double-check what they see before calling for help—but also highlighting the dedication of animal rescuers who are always ready to help, no matter the situation.
