Is anyone else noticing that food prices have been going up lately? I mean, it’s only been a few months since I’ve really started paying attention, but it feels like every time I go to the store the prices of things have gone up. It makes me wonder how people who are on a budget manage to get by. Of course, that’s not to say that I’m immune to this – my grocery bill has definitely been creeping up recently, and I’m starting to worry about what it means for the future. Has anyone else noticed this trend? Are you worried about it too? Here are items predicted to cost a whole lot more at the grocery store in 2022.

Fruits and vegetables

The prices for fruits and vegetables are predicted to increase this year, but not as much or in the same way that other food products like beef do. The increases will still be noticeable with 4%-5% jumps expected among all categories including fresh veggies which could go up by 3%.

Poultry and eggs

The price of poultry is expected to rise by 6%-7% this year. This includes raw breasts and thighs as well, the wholesale market has also been projecting significant increases for wholesalers who are to see a 9%-12% price increase this year.

Baked goods and your favorite cereals

The price of breakfast is expected to rise by as much as 3%-4% over the next years, with a corresponding same jump in price for those who love their fresh baked goods as well.

Nonalcoholic beverages

The price of drinks like soda and juices is expected to see an increase by 3.5%-4.5%. This increase also might be because of the production costs of these beverages, like soda and juice boxes use paper, plastic, aluminum, and other raw materials to contain and ship their products.

Oils and fats

Expected price increases for fats, oils, and other food products are anticipated to be the largest increase among all categories. A 27%-30% jump in wholesale prices has been projected for this year alone and the cost of food is expected to increase by as much as 6%-7%.
