Suspect Rescued After Getting Trapped in Storm Sewer While Fleeing Police

A suspect’s attempt to evade police took a dangerous turn Wednesday night after he became trapped in a storm sewer in Lakewood. According to West Metro Fire Rescue, crews responded to a call around the 7800 block of West Mansfield Parkway and found the man standing in cold water about 15 feet underground, unable to escape on his own.

The individual had reportedly crawled into the water-filled storm drain while fleeing from law enforcement, hoping to hide but quickly realizing he was stuck. Lakewood Police and Jefferson County Sheriff’s deputies were on scene to assist.

West Metro Fire’s technical rescue team safely extracted the man, who was then transported to a local hospital for evaluation. Authorities used the incident as a reminder that storm drains are not safe or effective hiding spots, often containing water, tight spaces, and unseen hazards.

No details have been released yet regarding potential charges the suspect may face.
