Colorado Day 2025: State Kicks Off 149th Birthday and Sesquicentennial Celebration

Colorado is officially 149 years old today, and this year’s Colorado Day marks the beginning of a yearlong countdown to the state’s 150th anniversary of statehood. Governor Jared Polis proclaimed August 1, 2025, as the launch of Colorado’s sesquicentennial year, in coordination with the America 250 – Colorado 150 commission. The initiative also celebrates the upcoming 250th anniversary of the United States.

Jason Hanson, chief creative officer for History Colorado, emphasized that this milestone is about more than just history—it’s a chance to ensure every community in Colorado feels recognized and celebrated during this once-in-a-generation moment.

To mark the occasion, a variety of free and family-friendly events are taking place in Denver and across the state.

Colorado Day Events in Denver (Friday, Aug. 1, 2025):

  • Governor’s Residence Tours: Free guided tours of the historic Boettcher Mansion, 10 a.m. – 2 p.m.

  • State Capitol Birthday Party: Cake, live performances, and activities, 10 a.m. – 3 p.m.

  • Union Station Celebration: Entertainment and local vendors downtown, 4 p.m. – 9 p.m.

  • History Colorado Center: Free admission, crafts, and live performances, 10 a.m. – 5 p.m.

  • Center for Colorado Women’s History: Outdoor fun, face painting, music, and free admission, 10 a.m. – 4 p.m.
