Aurora, Colorado, Ranked Among Worst Drivers in the U.S.
Driving in Colorado can feel challenging at times, and now there’s data to back that up — at least for one city. According to a new report from Consumer Affairs, Aurora has landed near the top of the list of U.S. cities with the worst drivers.
The ranking is based on several factors, including crash statistics and fatalities. Aurora took a dramatic leap in 2024, climbing from 53rd place last year to 4th worst in the country this year. Researchers pointed to a troubling rise in fatal crashes as one of the biggest reasons for the city’s poor ranking.

Aurora also scored particularly poorly in alcohol-related driving incidents. The city ranked 7th nationwide for DUI-related fatalities at 5.38 deaths per 100,000 residents, and 2nd worst overall for fatalities involving drivers with a positive blood alcohol content, with 7.43 deaths per 100,000 residents.
Only three cities fared worse than Aurora on the list: Waterbury, Connecticut; Knoxville, Tennessee; and Memphis, Tennessee, which ranked as the worst in the nation.
The report highlights a concerning trend for Aurora, underscoring the need for safer roads and more responsible driving habits as the city grapples with rising traffic fatalities.
