Slow Down: Three Drivers Caught Exceeding 100 mph in Aurora

Aurora police apprehended three drivers speeding significantly over the limit on Interstate 225 early Thursday morning. The Aurora Police Department shared on X (formerly Twitter) that their speed gun captured three vehicles traveling over 100 mph in separate incidents.

“No, this was not the same car clocked three times,” clarified the department, posting photos of the speed readings.

The individual drivers were recorded at speeds of 101, 102, and 103 mph. Each driver now faces a mandatory court appearance to address the violation.

“Driving this fast is not only illegal and dangerous but potentially deadly. Don’t risk anyone else’s life, or your own, by driving this fast,” emphasized Aurora police.

According to the Colorado General Assembly, exceeding the speed limit by 25 mph or more, or surpassing the maximum lawful speed of 75 mph, constitutes a class 2 misdemeanor traffic offense. Offenders may face fines ranging from $150 to $300 or jail time between 10 to 90 days.

Drivers caught going 20-39 mph over the limit may receive six points on their license, while those exceeding the limit by 40 mph or more could get 12 points.

Remember to observe speed limit signs and drive safely — it could save your license or even your life.
