Toys “R” Us Returns to Colorado With First Flagship Location

Generations of Coloradans grew up wandering the aisles of Toys “R” Us, humming the famous jingle, and dreaming of the latest toys. When the chain shuttered nationwide, it felt like the end of an era. Now, the beloved brand is making a comeback — and Colorado is getting its very first flagship store.

The new Toys “R” Us will open at Denver Premium Outlets in Thornton, bringing back the full-scale toy-shopping experience that families remember. This isn’t a small in-store section like the Macy’s partnerships launched in 2022 — it’s a stand-alone flagship store filled with the kind of magic kids (and parents) used to look forward to.

Currently, Toys “R” Us has six flagship stores across the country, with seven more in the works. Colorado’s Thornton store is part of this expansion, though no official opening date has been set. For now, all we know is that it’s marked as “coming soon,” and excitement is already building.

What makes the flagship stores different is their ability to stand on their own again — massive aisles of toys, games, and collectibles, all in one place. The company hopes to capture both nostalgia for adults who grew up with Toys “R” Us and create a new favorite destination for kids today.

As Thornton prepares to welcome the return of Geoffrey the Giraffe, local families are wondering: will it feel like stepping back into childhood, or will it be a fresh, modern take on the toy-shopping experience? Either way, the comeback promises to make Toys “R” Us a household name in Colorado once more.
