Driver Pulled Over for Reckless Driving, Police Find Children Riding in Trunk
A driver was arrested on suspicion of DUI after admitting to police that three children were riding in the trunk of his vehicle during a reckless driving stop.
According to police, a traffic officer observed the vehicle driving erratically near City Center Drive and 93rd Avenue and initiated a stop. When officers made contact with the driver, they immediately detected the smell of alcohol. The driver denied drinking but initially agreed to perform voluntary roadside maneuvers before changing his mind.

After being placed in handcuffs, the driver told officers, “My kids are in the trunk.” Police then discovered three children inside the trunk of the vehicle. Authorities noted that temperatures at the time of the stop were freezing, though the children were fortunately unharmed.
During the investigation, officers also recovered several bottles of alcohol from inside the vehicle. The driver was arrested on suspicion of DUI, reckless driving, failure to provide valid insurance, and three counts of child abuse. He was transported to the Adams County Jail.
Child Protective Services was contacted, and the children were released into the care of family members. Police emphasized that all individuals are presumed innocent unless proven guilty in a court of law.
