Things escalated quickly at a youth basketball game in Colorado, as two referees engaged in a physical altercation captured on video. The incident occurred during a 4th-grade boys’ game between Cherry Creek and Legend Blue at the Gold Crown Field House in Lakewood, CO.

The video footage depicts two referees squaring off on the court after a disagreement, culminating in one referee throwing a right hook that knocks the other official to the ground. Attempts to throw further punches were intervened by bystanders.

The incident didn’t end there. The knocked-down referee, back on his feet, engaged in a tense standoff with another official, though thankfully, no further punches were thrown.

“We have informed these independently contracted officials that they are suspended indefinitely from working for Gold Crown Foundation,” GCF told us in a statement. “Most importantly we apologize to everyone that had to witness their unacceptable behavior – especially the kids.”

The Lakewood Police Department confirmed their awareness of the situation but stated that no arrests were made due to the involved parties leaving the premises before their arrival.
