Many avid readers and book lovers received sad news on Monday. A Denver staple, the BookBar will close its doors after the holiday season.

The Book Bar will close its doors on January 31, 2023 after its 10th holiday season. Authors and bibliophiles in Colorado will now be missing the book haven that provided many readings, signings, story times, club meetings and wine sipping over deep conversations.

Nicole Sullivan, owner of the independent bookstore and wine bar in Denver’s Berkeley neighborhood made an announcement Monday of her decision to close the doors. When asked why, she cited fatigue and rising costs in everything.

Everywhere we turn in this city we see rising costs of everything under the sun. We are losing good businesses because the inflated prices make it unsustainable to continue operating some local businesses. We have seen restaurants closing at alarming rates after the pandemic caused many to take big financial losses.

We have lost so many city staples and now the BookBar is added to that list of favorite spots that will be missed.

Although we certainly understand the reasoning behind the closings, we wish things were different. But, we wish Nicole Sullivan much success and happiness in her future endeavors.

Visit while you can. For more information check out https://bookbardenver.com/.

BookBar, you will be missed.
