Former state senator and attorney Penfield Tate III is running for Denver City Council. Penfield Tate III is a passionate public servant who has dedicated his career to making Denver a better place for its residents. His involvement in public service began with his service on the Five Points Community Center board in one of Denver’s historic neighborhoods.

As a civil rights attorney, Tate ensured justice and fairness for all. He has served in various public roles, including at the Federal Trade Commission, in the administrations of former Denver Mayor Federico Peña and Governor Roy Romer, and for six years in the Colorado House and Senate.

Tate’s legal practice in public finance has played a significant role in some of Denver’s most notable infrastructure projects, including Union Station and Denver International Airport. He has served on numerous boards, including the Colorado Housing and Finance Authority and the Denver Water Board.

Throughout his career, Tate has shown an unwavering commitment to acting with integrity, working for the common good, and crafting solutions that move Denver forward. He believes that Denver’s best days are ahead of it and is committed to strengthening all of Denver’s neighborhoods, expanding affordable housing, reducing homelessness, reforming the criminal justice system, protecting parks and open spaces, and enhancing public transportation.

Tate’s experience and record of tackling complex challenges make him a strong advocate for Denver City Council.

His platform, Livability Denver, focuses on improving the quality of life for all Denver residents. Tate’s top priorities include tackling affordability issues, addressing homelessness and safety concerns, and improving downtown Denver. As Tate joins eight other candidates in the race for two at-large seats, his proven leadership and vision for Denver’s future make him a compelling choice for voters who want an experienced and effective representative on City Council.
