“I remember the days when I had nothing, just a ball on the court and a dream of something more,” said Anthony in his Instagram post, shared earlier today.

The ten-time All-Star and three-time Olympic gold medalist is ready to hang up his sweatband.

“Now the time has come for me to say goodbye,” Anthony said in a video he posted on his Twitter and Instagram accounts. “Basketball was my outlet. My purpose was strong, my communities, the cities I represented with pride, and the fans that supported me along the way. I am forever grateful for those people and places because they made me Carmelo Anthony.”

Anthony’s career highlights include the ’03 draft to the Denver Nuggets for eight seasons before being traded to the New York Knicks as part of the infamous three-way deal with the Minnesota Timberwolves. With the Knicks, he went on to win the NBA scoring title in the 2012-2013 season. While they didn’t win a championship, he went on to play for Oklahoma City Thunder, Houston Rockets, Los Angeles Lakers, and the Portland Trail Blazers.

“My legacy, my son, it’s in you. I will forever continue through you because the time has come for you to carry this torch,” said Anthony. “My legacy, now and forever, lives on through you. And I’ll always be proud of all that you do. Peace.”

Anthony retires while holding the ninth-place record for the all-time NBA list solidifying his career with 28,289 points, reports USA Today.
