Thornton named in top 10 list for longest commutes in the US

On average, the U.S. driver spends 17,600 minutes driving, according to CNN the average amount of time stuck in traffic is 54 hours a year.

In a fun game of traffic trivia, FinanceBuzz collected data from across the US to see what cities have the worst traffic times, one Colorado city made the list.

The long commute can have a number of negative consequences for Thornton residents. It can increase stress levels, reduce productivity, and lead to health problems. It can also make it difficult to spend time with family and friends.

Here are the top 10 cities in the nation and their commute times.

Top 10 longest commutes in the nation

  1. Poinciana, Florida – 43.2 minutes
  2. Apple Valley, California – 42.6 minutes
  3. San Tan Valley, Arizona – 40.6 minutes
  4. New York City, New York – 39.8 minutes
  5. Waldorf, Maryland – 38.2 minutes
  6. Dale City, Virginia – 35.9 minutes
  7. Atascocita, Texas – 34.9 minutes
  8. Thornton, Colorado – 34.8 minutes
  9. Jersey City, New Jersey – 34 minutes
  10. Malden, Massachusetts – 33.6 minutes

These three cities have an average commute times under 20 minutes:

  • Anchorage, Alaska (19.1 minutes)
  • Omaha, Nebraska (19.2 minutes)
  • Davenport, Iowa (19.3 minutes)
