The Denver area has been experiencing a welcome decline in gas prices over the past few months, but nothing quite like the price war that has erupted along Arapahoe Road in Greenwood Village.

As of Monday morning, a QuikTrip station at Arapahoe and Syracuse Way was selling regular gas for a remarkably low $1.71 per gallon. Another station nearby followed suit, offering regular gas for $1.74.

FOX31’s Jim Hooley witnessed the dramatic price fluctuations firsthand, reporting from the gas station throughout Monday morning. Around 7 a.m., he observed the price at QuikTrip jump from $1.71 to $2.29, a significant increase but still below the average price.

Nationally, gas prices are also trending downward, albeit at a slower pace. Over the past week, the national average for regular gas has fallen by about 5 cents, settling at $3.33. This is still approximately 25 cents higher than the average in Denver.

While the duration of the gas war along Arapahoe Road is uncertain, drivers can certainly appreciate the temporary reprieve from high gas prices. By taking advantage of these lower prices, they can save money on their daily commutes and other driving expenses.
