DIA updates train system with nightly closures for smoother future travel

To ensure a reliable train system for its growing passenger base, DIA is testing and upgrading its power distribution and critical infrastructure. Passengers flying out on late-night flights to Concourses B and C this month need to be aware of temporary train closures.

What to expect:

  • Train closure: Concourses B and C trains will be unavailable from 9:15 PM to 3:00 AM on February 13, 14, 20, 21, 27, and 28.
  • Alternative transport: During closures, passengers can head through Bridge Security and follow signs to board shuttle buses taking them directly to their concourse.
  • Plan ahead: Allow an extra 30 minutes for your travel time to account for potential delays.

Why the closures?

These closures are crucial for testing and evaluating the performance of the Automated Guideway Transit System (AGTS) in preparation for:

  • 26 new trains: DIA is welcoming 26 brand new Alstom train cars this year, offering a 30% reduction in power consumption.
  • Future expansion: The testing will provide valuable data for future improvements as passenger volumes increase towards the projected 100 million annually.

DIA’s commitment to improvement:

The recent train issues, like the January 23rd switch plate problem and the July 2022 train stoppage, highlight the need for upgrades. DIA’s proactive approach with these scheduled closures aims to prevent future disruptions and ensure a smooth and reliable train system for all passengers.

Remember: The first new train arrived in December 2023, and all 26 are expected to be operational by summer. While these temporary closures might cause minor inconveniences, the long-term benefits for future travel experiences are significant.
