Denver makes top 10 list of cities with the highest minimum wage in the country

As the fight for a living wage continues, several US cities have implemented minimum wages exceeding the federal rate of $7.25 per hour. While some states also have minimum wages above the federal level, certain cities take it a step further, offering higher hourly wages to their residents.

Here’s a glimpse into the top 10 US cities boasting the highest minimum wages in 2024:

  1. Tukwila, Washington: Leading the pack is Tukwila, Washington, with a minimum wage of $20.29 per hour for large employers (those with over 500 employees worldwide) and $18.29 for mid-sized employers.

  2. Seattle, Washington: Just behind Tukwila is its larger neighbor, Seattle, with a minimum wage of $19.97 per hour.

  3. SeaTac, Washington: Rounding out the top three from Washington is SeaTac, offering a minimum wage of $19.71 per hour.

  4. West Hollywood, California: California makes its first appearance on the list with West Hollywood, boasting a minimum wage of $19.08 per hour.

  5. Mountain View, California: Home to many tech giants, Mountain View, California, offers a minimum wage of $18.75 per hour.

  6. Emeryville, California: Another California city, Emeryville, follows closely with a minimum wage of $18.67 per hour (as of July 2023).

  7. Denver, Colorado: Started Jan. 1. The Mile High City has brought its wages to new heights as minimum wage is now  $18.29
  8. San Francisco, California: The iconic San Francisco joins the list with a minimum wage of $17.25 per hour.

  9. San Jose, California: California’s dominance continues with San Jose, offering a minimum wage of $16.80 per hour.

  10. Washington D.C.: The nation’s capital, Washington D.C., implements a minimum wage of $17.00 per hour.

This list provides a snapshot of the top contenders in the minimum wage race as of 2024. As economic landscapes and policy decisions evolve, the landscape of minimum wage may continue to shift in the future.
