Get ready to hear that signature “Happy Gilmore!” roar once again.

Netflix has officially announced a sequel to the beloved 1996 golf comedy, bringing back Adam Sandler in the titular role.

The news broke during the streamer’s upfront presentation for advertisers. Sandler starred in and co-wrote the original “Happy Gilmore” alongside director Dennis Dugan. The outrageous sports comedy remains one of Sandler’s most popular films.

Sandler reprises his role as Happy, a hockey enforcer with a short fuse who unexpectedly discovers a golden touch on the golf course. Fueled by a desire to save his grandmother’s house, Happy embarks on a hilarious and chaotic journey through the professional golf circuit, facing off against the arrogant Shooter McGavin (played by Christopher McDonald). Julie Bowen and Carl Weathers also starred in the original film.

Rumors of a sequel swirled earlier this year when McDonald revealed Sandler had shown him a draft script during a chance encounter. “Adam said, ‘McDonald, you’re gonna love this,'” McDonald recalled. “‘Maybe you should cut that out,’ he added, ‘but I don’t wanna be a liar…'” With a mischievous grin, McDonald concluded, “Fans demand it, dammit!”

“Happy Gilmore” grossed nearly $40 million at the worldwide box office in 1996, solidifying Sandler’s status as a comedic powerhouse of the decade. Now, after nearly three decades, Happy is ready to tee off on a whole new generation of fans.
