For years, residents of Denver’s Elyria-Swansea neighborhood have endured pungent odors emanating from the nearby Nestle-Purina factory. The smells, described as strong and disruptive, have become a constant presence, forcing residents to adjust their daily lives.

“It’s gotten to the point where we think it’s our pets, but then we realize it’s everywhere,” said Danielle Ramirez, a resident.

Seeking Relief Through Lawsuit

In a recent development, residents have filed a class-action lawsuit against Nestle-Purina, alleging negligence in managing the plant’s odors. The lawsuit claims the company has the technology to control or eliminate the smells but has chosen not to implement it.

Residents detail the impact on their lives, from disrupted outdoor events to headaches and nausea. The lawsuit seeks a court order declaring the plant a nuisance, forcing Nestle-Purina to address the issue.

Nestle-Purina Responds

Nestle-Purina, while acknowledging their long history in the area, declined to comment on the specifics of the lawsuit. They maintain their commitment to being a good neighbor.

Hope for a Fresh Start

Despite the ongoing issue, residents hold onto hope. The lawsuit represents a potential path towards a solution, a future free from the constant unpleasant smells.

“Imagine,” said Rogan McKee, another resident, “a world where we don’t have to deal with this anymore. It sounds too good to be true, but we can dream, can’t we?”
