Shannon Sharpe Reveals Why He Avoids Sleepovers at Women’s Homes

Former NFL star Shannon Sharpe, known for his illustrious career with the Denver Broncos which includes three Super Bowl titles and eight Pro Bowl appearances, recently shared a chilling reason for his refusal to sleep over at women’s houses. During an episode of Funky Friday with Cam Newton, Sharpe recounted harrowing experiences that led to his decision.

One incident occurred shortly after he was drafted by the Broncos. Sharpe described a terrifying moment of sleep paralysis while staying over at a woman’s house: “Cam, something told me, ‘Boy, keep your clothes on.’ So, I got on shorts and I got on a T-shirt. Man, have you ever had sleep paralysis? You can hear things, but you can’t move…I can hear, and it’s getting louder, it’s getting louder, and they’re arguing. So, by this time—boom! The door flies off the hinges…So, I’m jumping up like, ‘Hey what’s up, boy, what’s it about to be?’ I said, ‘Oh lord, he’s got some bodies on his resume.’ Yeah, I’m talking about those kind of bodies.'”

Fortunately, the intruder recognized Sharpe and was upset with the woman involved, not him.

In another frightening incident in 1993, Sharpe was back at Savannah State for homecoming. He described: “I set my stuff down. And I’m looking at the door handle, it’s turning…Dude comes in. He got that [AK-47]. Oh lord, have mercy. I said, ‘Lord.’ And he looked at me, and he said, ‘My man.’ I said, ‘Yeah.’ He’s about to ask me if I’m Sharpe. I said, ‘Yeah.’ He said, ‘I thought so.’”

Sharpe acknowledged that this interruption might have saved his life, saying, “I said, ‘Man, my bad. You saved me.’ Because if I had not been [interrupted], I ain’t telling this story right now.”

These experiences left a profound impact on Sharpe, who revealed, “I have not closed my eyes at another woman’s house in 31 years.”

Despite these scary encounters, Sharpe’s football career was outstanding, earning him a place in the Pro Football Hall of Fame. However, these stories illustrate how different his life could have been due to these dangerous situations.
