Coloradans Pay Some of the Highest Monthly Bills in the U.S.

While Colorado offers many perks, the rising cost of living has become a significant drawback. The state’s natural beauty and vibrant cities come at a high price, especially when it comes to rent and household bills.

Colorado’s popularity has driven up the cost of living, particularly for renters. On average, Coloradans pay $1,594 in monthly rent, making it the fifth-highest in the country. Coupled with an increasingly inaccessible housing market, many residents are feeling the financial strain.

Colorado Ranks 9th for Highest Monthly Household Bills in the U.S.

Once you’ve secured housing, there’s still the challenge of managing hefty household bills. According to the financial assistance site doxo, Colorado ranks 9th in the nation for highest monthly household bills. On average, residents pay $2,553 per month, amounting to $30,637 annually—20% above the national average.

Cities With the Most and Least Expensive Household Bills in Colorado

Among Colorado cities, Avon tops the list for the most expensive household bills, with residents paying an average of $3,339 per month—57% higher than the national average. Despite the town’s higher average income of $97,054, 41% of that income goes toward household bills.

On the flip side, Sterling has the lowest household bills, averaging $1,957 per month, which is 8% below the national average. However, with an average income of $52,827, Sterling residents spend 44% of their income on household bills—slightly more than in Avon.

The rising costs in Colorado are making it harder for residents to keep up, despite the state’s many attractions and advantages.
