Historic Denver Mansion-Turned-Inn Hits Market for $3.2M

One of Denver’s most storied Victorian mansions is up for grabs. The Lumber Baron Inn, a 135-year-old estate nestled in the Highlands neighborhood at 2555 W. 37th Ave., is officially on the market for $3.2 million. Currently operating as a bed and breakfast with five elegant guest suites, the property also functions as a popular venue for weddings and events.

Built in 1890 by lumber tycoon John Mouat, the 9,700-square-foot home originally housed Mouat’s family and featured a third-floor ballroom for Denver’s elite social gatherings. Mouat’s company was behind the construction of over 200 buildings in the city during the late 1800s, and his home remains one of the last standing testaments to that legacy.

Each suite in the inn features private baths, jacuzzi tubs, and access to a commercial kitchen. The listing, managed by CBRE, notes the property’s flexible future—whether as a private residence, a boutique hotel, or a live-work business operation.

“Owning a piece of history like this in Denver is an incredibly rare opportunity,” said CBRE’s Matt Wood. The home has been meticulously restored to its original floor plan and includes a charming outdoor courtyard. Located just blocks from neighborhood favorites like Two Brothers Cafe and Spice Room, the inn blends timeless character with city convenience.
