Close to 4.6 million people have been petitioning Colorado Governor Jared Polis to give Rogel Aguilera-Mederos clemency. Rogel has been sentenced to 110 years imprisonment, but many people, including Kim Kardashian West, are bargaining for his release. People wish Rogel gets forgiveness or at least commutation as time served.

Kim said in her tweet that she is aware that everyone is posting about Rogel Aguilera-Mederos. Kim said she had investigated the situation, so she understood the truth. Kim continued to shed light on the matter by speaking about the 26-year old that was sentenced to 110 years in prison for driving a semi- tractor-trailer and crashing into traffic, killing four people. Kim said that the Rogel was not drunk or under the influence of drugs; the brakes of the semi-tractor failed regardless.

“I know everyone has been posting about Rogel Aguilera-Mederos this week. I took a deep dive into it to figure out what the situation is”, Kim Kardashian West tweeted.

Kim expressed her shock that the judge did not want to sentence Rogel to serve a long time in jail. But the judge’s hands were tied by the mandatory minimums in Colorado. The Mandatory minimums take away the legal will and the urge to end. Kim’s opinion is that the law is unfair, and it is time to revise it.

The events of Rogel Aguilera-Mederos’ Accident

Rogel was driving an 18-wheeler through the mountains, but the brakes failed as he was driving to the city. In the long run, Rogel crashed into more than two dozen stationary vehicles and four semitrailers. The accident killed four people and hurt more than ten people.

The court convicted Rogel of;

  • Six accounts of assault in the first degree-extreme indifference
  • Ten counts of trying to commit assault in the first degree-extreme difference
  • Two counts of vehicular assault or recklessness
  • A single count Recklessness while driving
  • Four counts of careless driving led to the death of four people

The mandatory minimum sentencing laws that apply for crimes of violence gave Rogel the 110-year sentence. The required minimum sentencing laws apply to the cases that involve death and sustaining severe physical injuries.

Kim Kardashian is praying that Governor Polis feels the urge to forgive Rogel. Kim trusts that the governor will honor his previous efforts to support the reforms for human dignity and set Rogel free. On Wednesday, Rogel’s family is also expected to join the community groups to urge Governor Polis to take action against the judgment.

The first judicial district lawyer, Alexis King, also filed a motion for the retrial of Rogel Aguilera-Mederos. Alexis requested a court hearing in which District Court Judge Bruce Jones can review Rogel Aguilera-Mederos’s sentence. Jones was early on open to reducing the sentence is planning to set a hearing Monday to talk about the trial’s request.

What to Expect After Submitting a Request for Clemency

The Colorado law requires Governor Polis to wait for at least 14 days after receiving the request for clemency to act on it. Governor Polis can contact the judge and the district attorney in charge of the applicant’s trial and sentencing. Governor Polis can seek their response on clemency appeal and offer them at least 14 days to give remarks about it. Governor Polis can act on the petition once the two weeks are over. The requests from clemency often go through the state’s Executive Clemency Advisory Board. The Board will respond to the governor on whether to honor the request.
