DIA Parking Rates Increase

The Denver International Airport is raising the parking rates in both short term and long term parking lots. They will also increase the price of the park and ride lot adjacent to the RTD airport station at 61st and Pena Blvd. This is the first increase to parking rates since September of 2019. But why now? Airport officials say the cost increase will cover maintenance and increased security. The maintenance will include pavement repairs, line striping, equipment maintenance and maintenance of the shuttles and buses. There will also be an increase in staffing such as cashiers, bus drivers and security staff.

With the Denver International Airport becoming a major area of auto theft in Colorado in 2022, the extra efforts and staff are needed to protect the parking lots. Theft in the airport lots has tripled this year alone.

Rates will increase by $1- $2 depending on the lot. The Mt. Elbert and Pikes Peak shuttle lots will remain $8 per day.

Here is a rundown of what the new prices will look like.

Garage
$5 per hour; $28 per day increases to
$7 per hour; $30 per day

Economy
$5 per hour; days 1-3, $17 per day; 4+ days, $15 per day increases to
$6 per hour; days 1-3, $18 per day; 4+ days, $16 per day

Short-Term
$6 per hour; $144 per day increases to
$7 per hour; $168 per day

61st and Peña
$3 per 12 hours; $6 per day increases to
$5 per 12 hours; $7 per day

The increase comes at a time when everything seems to be climbing in price. But for added safety and security, this may be one price hike people may get behind.
