Starting in March, 2023, a new camera system will start recording the traffic running through the Mountain parts of I-70.  This footage will be used to issue tickets to people who violate the Toll rules.  These are not speed cameras, but they will pop you if you’re traveling without paying, and this includes passing slower vehicles quickly, or if you’re diving in the lanes when closed.  Basically, if you cross that Solid White line, you’re getting a ticket.  If you have a trailer and you think it blocks your license plate, this system will tag you with a ticket as well.

If you do get a Toll Ticket in the mail, it will run you about $150-250 depending on how bad they consider your move.  If you pay it off in 4 weeks, they’ll make it half price.  Like most thing, you can pay the fines online, but you will also be able to pay them at Gas Stations and Grocery Stores.  These are not like speeding tickets.  They don’t have to serve these tickets in person.  Your citation will come with a link to a 5 second video of you breaking the law.  If you don’t pay these fines, you may have problems registering your car.

This is just the phase one of the project.  They will test everything out on the 13 miles of mountain toll lanes, and If everything works out, you can expect them in the other Toll lanes around town later in the year.  The Camera System in use is by Blissway.  You can read more about that they do to improve traffic here.

Express lanes in Colorado are managed by ExpressToll. CDOT currently has Express Lanes on US 36, from Boulder to Denver; on I-25 from downtown Denver to Northwest Parkway/E-470; the I-70 Mountain Express Lane, eastbound from Empire to Idaho Springs; and the C-470 Express Lanes. Express Lanes are currently under construction on I-25 North from Berthoud to Fort Collins; on I-70 between Brighton Boulevard and Chambers Road; on I-25 South from Monument to Castle Rock; and on westbound I-70 in the mountains.
