TSA Workers Still on the Job Without Pay — Denver Airport Asking for Gift Card Donations

Denver International Airport is asking the public to step up and help TSA workers who are continuing to work without pay during the ongoing federal government shutdown.

The shutdown began on February 14 after lawmakers in Washington, D.C. failed to reach an agreement to fund the Department of Homeland Security. The dispute centers on immigration enforcement policies, with Democrats pushing for changes to operations that are part of President Donald Trump’s deportation efforts.

As the funding standoff continues, thousands of Transportation Security Administration employees across the country are still reporting to work but are missing paychecks. The situation comes at a difficult time, as the busy spring break travel season ramps up and passenger traffic surges at airports nationwide.

At Denver International Airport, officials are encouraging both airport employees and members of the public to support TSA workers by donating grocery store or gas gift cards in smaller denominations such as $10 or $20. The donations are meant to help screeners cover everyday expenses like food and fuel while they continue performing their duties during the shutdown.

Despite the lack of pay, TSA employees are still required to work because their jobs are considered essential for maintaining airport security. Denver airport leaders say the gift card donations are one way the community can show appreciation and provide support to workers who are keeping travelers safe while dealing with the financial strain of the shutdown.

Airport officials say even small contributions can make a meaningful difference for TSA employees and their families as the funding impasse continues in Washington.
