A brazen burglary attempt in Wheat Ridge, Colorado, ended with a quick-thinking witness and a timely police interception – all thanks to the suspect’s own Uber request.

In a video posted to Wheat Ridge Police Department X account, police responded: “responded to a burglary call at Blue Sky Plumbing, after a 911 caller saw a hole in the fence and advised they had security footage of a man stealing tools.”

It may not be the best idea to have an Uber pick you up AT the crime scene.

A witness spotted a hole in the fence, and security footage captured a man pilfering tools. Officers raced to the scene, arriving before the suspect could make his getaway via Uber.

Wheat Ridge Police Officers intercepted the man, who provided a fake name, and were able to find a backpack with more than $8,600 worth of Milwaukee brand tools. The suspect was taken back to the police department, where fingerprint scanners confirmed his real identity.

The suspect is facing a recommended felony theft charge and six misdemeanor charges, a stark contrast to the comfortable Uber ride he envisioned. This incident serves as a reminder of the ever-present eyes of vigilant communities and the swift response of law enforcement – even when criminals attempt to leverage modern conveniences for their escape.
