Do you have a hard time getting your kid down for a nap? Do they always fuss and fight you every step of the way? Well, I have some good news for you. There are three ways to get your kid down for a nap without any drama or fighting. So, if your child is giving you a hard time when it comes to taking naps, try one of these methods — and see how much easier things become.

Set the stage for naptime with quiet time

Setting the stage for nap time can be difficult if your home is loud and bright. To make sure everyone has a good nap, start by turning down or closing blinds 15-20 minutes before your child’s naptime begins! Also turn off the TV and if the home is too quiet, try playing some soft music. Over time your child will recognize the home environment has changed and that will help signal to their little brains that it’s time for a nap.

Take a drive

If you are having trouble sending your little one to Lala Land then maybe a long car ride will do the trick. This was a method my mother would use regularly with me and my brother, but with the gas prices increasing to a recorded high, it might not be a good idea any more, but it sure does work! If you want the best of both worlds, we recommend grabbing your favorite coffee drink at the drive-thru and bringing along some books to keep yourself entertained while they naps!

Recognize when they’re done with naps and swap for more sleep at night

The last few naps can be like goldfish in a pond – hard to catch and even more difficult when they’re gone. But don’t worry, it’s completely normal for kids to take fewer naps as they get older and sooner or later we all go through this phase! As a parent, you might be able to get more sleep at night by cutting down on the amount of time your child spends napping during the day. Learning when they are ready for this change in routine will help all members of your family and hopefully help maintain their energy levels throughout the day!
