From Football to Baseball: Broncos Owners Make Surprise Move Into Rockies
The ownership group behind the Denver Broncos is expanding its footprint in Colorado sports, now taking a stake in Major League Baseball.
Greg and Carrie Penner, through the Penner Sports Group, have officially become minority owners of the Colorado Rockies after the deal was approved by MLB. According to a report from KMGH, the Penners are now the largest minority partners in the organization, though the exact size of their stake has not been disclosed.
Despite the new investment, the Monfort family will remain in control of the team, with Dick Monfort continuing as CEO and Walker Monfort overseeing day-to-day operations. Team leadership says the addition of the Penners brings a shared commitment to the region and a focus on long-term success.
For the Penners, who also own the Denver Broncos, the move represents an opportunity to deepen their involvement in Denver’s sports landscape. They emphasized that their primary focus remains on the Broncos, but they view the Rockies as a long-term partnership.
The Rockies say the investment will help strengthen the franchise financially, including paying down debt and supporting future improvements to Coors Field and the team overall.
