Several national restaurant chains are scaling back locations in Colorado as part of larger nationwide restructuring efforts. Here are three restaurant chains that have been closing locations in the state as of April 2026:

1. Noodles & Company
The Broomfield-based chain is trimming underperforming restaurants as part of a plan to close up to 50 locations nationwide. Because Colorado has one of the highest concentrations of Noodles & Company stores, several older locations in the state are being shut down while the company focuses on profitable markets, simplified menus, and improving customer value.

2. Wendy’s
Wendy’s is continuing a national restructuring effort known as “Project Fresh,” which includes closing older restaurants that can’t accommodate newer drive-thru technology and modern store designs. Some aging Colorado locations are being phased out as the company invests in updated “Next Gen” restaurants and expansion in other markets.

3. Denny’s
The longtime diner chain is wrapping up a plan to close about 150 restaurants across the country. In Colorado, some older locations are being targeted where renovation costs are too high to meet the brand’s updated standards. The company is shifting focus toward fewer, higher-traffic locations rather than maintaining older 24-hour diners.

Industry analysts say rising operating costs, higher rents, and changing dining habits are pushing many chains to rethink their footprint in Colorado. At the same time, many of the vacated spaces are being filled by fast-casual concepts and local Colorado restaurants looking to expand across the Front Range.
