Intoxicated Man Arrested After Pointing Gun at Electric Utility Worker in Arapahoe County
An Arapahoe County man is facing multiple charges after authorities say he pointed a firearm at an electric utility worker who was simply doing his job.
According to the Arapahoe County Sheriff’s Office, the incident occurred when a Core Electric Cooperative employee knocked on the man’s door to inform him about accessing the utility pole located in his backyard. The worker was there as part of routine maintenance or inspection, but things quickly escalated.
Instead of cooperating, the homeowner allegedly retrieved a firearm and aimed it at the utility worker. The worker, who was unarmed and performing official duties, quickly reported the incident, prompting a swift response from sheriff’s deputies.
When deputies arrived on the scene, they found the suspect to be intoxicated. He was taken into custody and later booked into the Arapahoe County Detention Facility. He is now facing charges of felony menacing and prohibited use of a weapon, both serious offenses under Colorado law.
In a surprising turn, a second individual at the property was also taken into custody — although for unrelated outstanding warrants. The sheriff’s office has not clarified what his connection, if any, was to the initial confrontation.
Officials emphasized the importance of respecting utility workers and reminded residents that utility companies may need access to service lines and poles located on private property. Law enforcement is urging the public to stay calm and call the utility or sheriff’s office if they have any doubts about the legitimacy of a visit.
No injuries were reported in the incident. The investigation is ongoing.
