Denver Police to Crack Down on Expired Plates Starting July 15

DENVER — Attention drivers in Denver: If your vehicle has expired tags or temporary plates, it’s time to get them updated. The Denver Police Department (DPD) has announced a strict enforcement campaign targeting expired vehicle registrations starting Monday, July 15, and running through August 15.

During this period, officers will be pulling over drivers with expired plates and issuing citations. The fine for an expired registration is $95, which will be in addition to any fees required to renew the vehicle’s registration.

Residents of Denver must register newly purchased or acquired vehicles in person at a Division of Motor Vehicles office within the city. Registration renewals can be conveniently completed online or at designated kiosks.

This initiative follows similar enforcement actions taken by Aurora and Lakewood police earlier this year, where hundreds of citations were issued for registration violations.

If you haven’t yet updated your registration, now is the time to do so to avoid penalties and ensure compliance with city regulations.
