Heartwarming Rescue: Blind Horse Saved by Poudre Fire Authority

In a heartwarming act of bravery and compassion, a blind horse named Lacy was rescued from a canal by the Poudre Fire Authority (PFA) on Saturday morning. The 20-year-old mare found herself stuck up to her shoulders in moderately flowing water near the intersection of North Giddings Road and East County Road 56.

The rescue operation commenced at 9:52 a.m. with the arrival of PFA’s Large Animal Rescue Team. Demonstrating remarkable dedication, a trained firefighter entered the canal to stay with Lacy, ensuring she felt safe and supported. The firefighter managed to secure a harness on Lacy, preventing any separation and guiding her towards safety.

Despite Lacy’s exhaustion, the rescue team successfully utilized a winch system to pull her up the bank and to shore. A medical team was immediately on hand to check her vitals and provide necessary care. Once the mild sedation wore off, Lacy stood up, showing resilience despite several cuts on her legs.

PFA reported that Lacy quickly recovered from her ordeal, aided by some fresh hay and loving strokes from her rescuers. This touching rescue highlights the incredible efforts of PFA and their commitment to the welfare of all animals.

Lacy’s story is a testament to the power of kindness and the dedication of those who work tirelessly to save lives, no matter how large or small.
