Aurora Police Are going after Street Racers

Aurora PD is chasing down people who are being too fast and too furious behind the wheel.  Last Night, Aurora PD made its presence known at four different car hangout spots, and wrote one person a ticket for doing burnouts.  APD says this is not a one time enforcement, and that you can expect Police to be there any time cars are gathering.  They promise to have under cover officers in the mix, and they will be keeping track of common license plates and cars.  So if you’re the Toretto in your group, be on the look out for any “Busters” in the mix.

Punishments can vary, depending on what charges are issued.  Exhibition of speed, or Engaging in a speed contest can bring fines of $150 to $1000, and 10 days to a year in Jail.  According to Colorado Law “A person who drives a motor vehicle, bicycle, electrical assisted bicycle, or low-power scooter in such a manner as to indicate either a wanton or a willful disregard for the safety of persons or property is guilty of reckless driving.” That ticket will run you $150 to $300 with possible jail time.  But that may not be the worst part:  Last July, Aurora passed an ordinance that could seize and impound street racing cars for up to one year.  If you want your car back, you’re going to have to talk to a Judge.

You spoke up, we listened.

Street racing is a metro-wide problem that continues to affect our community members. Tonight, we have dedicated officers that will be proactively looking for street racing, responding to calls about racing & taking enforcement action. #SaferAurora pic.twitter.com/IxowX2pj31
