An attempted child abduction in Sterling was thwarted when an 8-year-old girl bravely fought off her attacker in her bedroom. The incident occurred on Oct. 15 in the 300 block of Walnut Street. The suspect, Thomas Gallegos, fled the scene but was later apprehended on Oct. 19, thanks to digital, forensic, and physical evidence collected by the Sterling Police Department.
Sterling police worked tirelessly to identify and arrest Gallegos, who now faces multiple charges, including first-degree burglary, second-degree assault, attempted second-degree kidnapping, third-degree assault, and child abuse. Authorities have confirmed that there are no additional suspects and the community is no longer at risk.
