Broncos Eye Aurora and Lone Tree as Possible Sites for Future Stadium

The Denver Broncos’ hunt for a potential new stadium site is heating up, and for the first time, team CEO and co-owner Greg Penner publicly named Aurora and Lone Tree as contenders. Speaking at the annual NFL owners meetings in Florida, Penner said the team is exploring several options beyond the current Empower Field at Mile High, which has been home to the Broncos since 2001.

“We want to create what’s the best option for the next 40 or 50 years, not 10 or 20 years,” Penner said, signaling a long-term vision for the franchise’s future home. While the Mile High site is still under consideration, Penner’s mention of alternative locations outside Denver has added momentum to relocation rumors. A new stadium in Aurora or Lone Tree could offer economic benefits to surrounding communities, including construction jobs and new businesses, according to MSU Denver sports marketing lecturer Darrin Duber-Smith.

However, infrastructure and traffic concerns remain, especially in south Denver, where congestion could worsen with a major venue. The City of Lone Tree responded with cautious optimism, noting the site long designated for development, but no official proposal has been made. Aurora declined to comment. As the team continues its research and planning, Penner emphasized that “nothing has been ruled out,” leaving fans and city officials alike awaiting the next move in this high-stakes stadium saga.
