Five Days Trapped Above Live Power Lines… The Rescue Of This Colorado Cat Had Everyone Watching

An Aurora neighborhood spent nearly a week trying to rescue a cat stranded high on a power line pole, turning what began as a routine move into an emotional ordeal for the pet’s owner and nearby residents.

The cat, named Chato, escaped while his owner, Nely Aguilera, was moving into a home. She was able to catch one of her two cats, but Chato repeatedly slipped away and disappeared. After searching through the night and into the next day, the cat was eventually spotted perched on top of a nearby utility pole, far above the reach of a standard ladder.

Getting the cat down proved far more complicated than anyone expected. Because Chato was sitting near live power lines, firefighters and other responders could not safely attempt a rescue without shutting off electricity in the area. Neighbors spent hours calling different agencies and companies looking for help, including the fire department, tree services, animal protection, and electric providers, but each group faced safety limitations or policies that prevented them from intervening.

As the days passed, residents continued to check on the cat and look for solutions while Chato remained stranded on the pole. The situation drew concern from neighbors who could hear the cat meowing and worried about how long he could survive exposed to the elements.

After nearly a week on the pole, Chato was finally rescued Thursday night, bringing relief to Aguilera and the community members who had been following the situation and trying to help. The rescue ended a tense wait for everyone involved and returned the cat safely to the ground after days of uncertainty.
