A massive Ferris wheel could soon become part of Denver’s skyline if a new proposal gains traction.
The idea comes from the same group that previously floated a gondola-style transportation system for downtown. Their latest concept would bring a 500-foot-tall observation wheel—dubbed the “Rocky Mountain Eye”—to the Mile High City, offering a new kind of attraction for both locals and visitors.
Designed to mirror the experience of the London Eye, the wheel would feature enclosed glass pods, with about 30 cabins holding up to 25 passengers each. Moving at a slow pace of around two miles per hour, riders would have plenty of time to take in panoramic views of downtown Denver and the surrounding mountains.
Supporters say the attraction would offer more than just a one-time ride. With changing weather, seasonal themes, and special event experiences, each trip could feel different, giving people a reason to come back multiple times.
The proposal also ties into a larger vision for downtown, potentially connecting the wheel to a future elevated transit system using gondola-like cabins. Backers believe a project like this could boost tourism and become a signature destination in the city.
For now, the Ferris wheel remains in the proposal stage, with organizers working to build support and get buy-in from city leaders before anything moves forward.
