Lowriders, Tacos, and Tradition: Cinco de Mayo Returns to Civic Center Park
The Denver Cinco de Mayo Festival returns this weekend, bringing food, music, dancing, and celebration to Civic Center Park on Saturday and Sunday from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Now in its 36th year, the event has grown from a small gathering into the largest cultural festival in the Rocky Mountain region. Highlights include a lowrider car show, taco-eating contest, chihuahua races, artisan markets, and three live performance stages. The Cinco de Mayo Community Parade kicks off Saturday at 11 a.m. outside Denver’s City and County Building. The festival honors Mexico’s victory over France at the Battle of Puebla in 1862 and is produced by the nonprofit NEWSED.
Denver Police will reduce traffic on Federal Boulevard to one lane in each direction from 6th Avenue to West Mississippi Avenue through Sunday to ensure emergency access. Curfews for minors will also be in effect—midnight on Saturday and 11 p.m. Sunday.
