According to CBS Colorado’s Jasmine Arenas, Wendolyn Toro said two young men arrived at her home pretending to be interested in buying rings. While she showed them the jewelry, one pulled out a firearm. Toro said her husband tried to wrestle it away before shots were fired. Their children, ages 6 and 8, were nearby during the attack, which was captured on surveillance video.
Both parents needed multiple surgeries. Toro told CBS Colorado she lost a kidney and still has a bullet lodged in her lower back, while her husband lost part of his left leg. She said they spent weeks in comas. Her husband is now home, but the emotional effects remain especially difficult for their children, who are attending therapy and experiencing recurring nightmares.
Toro said five people were involved in the robbery and that two had been arrested. Those arrests had not been independently confirmed by Denver police in CBS Colorado’s report. The station said it was awaiting a response about the investigation, including whether additional suspects were being sought.
Despite losing thousands of dollars and having to relocate, Toro hopes to keep her jewelry business going with more precautions. For now, the family is focused on healing and helping their children feel safe again.
