The rules strengthen Stage 1 measures declared in March. April-through-July streamflow into Denver Water’s collection system was just 22% of normal, the lowest in 110 years of recordkeeping.
Here’s what changes:
- Grass: Watering is prohibited unless Denver Water has approved an exception.
- Trees, shrubs and perennials: Use a handheld hose with an automatic shutoff nozzle or low-volume, non-spray irrigation. Spray watering is prohibited.
- Annuals and vegetables: Those same methods are allowed until the first frost after September 30. No spray irrigation.
- Personal vehicles: Outside commercial car washes, use a bucket or handheld hose with an automatic shutoff nozzle.
- Power washing: Individuals may only power wash for immediate health or safety reasons. Commercial operators have separate restrictions.
- Restaurants and catering businesses: Water will only be served upon request.
The restrictions remain in effect until further board action. Check Denver Water’s full rules and exceptions before watering.
