The Denver Zoo is celebrating the birth of a new reticulated giraffe calf and is inviting the public to help choose his name. Born to 4-year-old BB after a 444-day pregnancy, the healthy baby boy marks an important addition to the Association of Zoos and Aquariums’ Giraffe Species Survival Program, which works to protect this endangered species.

To name the calf, the Denver Zoo has launched an online voting campaign, allowing supporters to choose from three options with a $5 donation per vote. The choices are:

  • Dagg – Honoring Dr. Anne Innis Dagg, a pioneer in giraffe research.
  • Thorn – Inspired by the giraffe’s favorite woody snack.
  • Kujali – A Swahili word meaning “to care.”

As of Monday morning, Kujali leads the poll with over $5,600 in donations, followed by Dagg and Thorn. Funds raised will support giraffe conservation and care at the zoo. Additionally, fans will soon have the chance to symbolically adopt the calf, contributing to his well-being. For those eager to see the little one in action, the zoo is providing a livestream so visitors can watch him explore his new surroundings. VOTE here.
