50 Years Later and You Can Still Watch Two Movies Without Leaving Your Seat
The Denver area’s last remaining drive-in movie theater is back for another season and it’s a big one. The 88 Drive-In Theatre in Commerce City is reopening to celebrate its 50th summer, bringing a nostalgic movie-going experience back to life for fans across the metro.

According to KUSA, the season kicks off this weekend with a double feature, giving moviegoers the chance to enjoy two films for the price of one. Tickets are $10 per person, while kids under 12 get in free, making it one of the most affordable nights out around. Gates open in the evening, with tickets sold at the box office starting at 7 p.m.
One of the biggest changes this year is a new policy allowing outside food and drinks, but there’s a catch. Guests will need to purchase a food permit, priced at $10 at the box office or $20 after parking. The theater says the move helps offset rising costs, as concession sales have long been a key part of keeping the drive-in running.

The reopening comes after uncertainty about the theater’s future in recent years, including plans to sell the property and potential redevelopment into industrial space. Despite that, the 88 Drive-In is welcoming families back for another season under the stars, continuing a decades-long tradition that has created generations of memories in the Denver area.
For now, the iconic drive-in lives on, offering a classic summer experience that’s getting harder to find.
