"The doctor said, you know, if we hadn't found her when we did, it would have been probably the worst-case scenario."

Seana Green has been a postal worker for” roughly 15 years.”

Like most observant about their jobs, they know their co-worker’s schedules and might find it odd not to see them for a few days— especially without notice. For Green, knowing those on her route is the same thing.

According to the KOAT, Green’s friendly with everyone on her route, especially 90-year-old Marilyn Schmidt—who, according to the Green, spent many hours on her porch.

“She’s out there pretty much at least like three or four times a week, kind of on an every other day thing,” Green said.

When Green realized she hadn’t seen Schmidt on Thursday or Friday, she worried as mail piled up.

“When I showed up on Saturday … she wasn’t on the porch, and the mail was just hanging out of her box,” Green said. She knocked loudly on the door but got no reply; she told the Durango Herald. “So I … started hollering toward the screen doors until there was a very weak answer from inside.”

Green was met with a weak voice she said sounded like “a kitten meowing.” She found an entryway through an unlocked door and shortly found Schmidt on the kitchen floor. According to the outlet, Schmidt had been on the floor since that Thursday.

“The doctor said, you know, if we hadn’t found her when we did, it would have been probably the worst-case scenario,” Green said.

Thanks to her faithful mail carrier, Schmidt brought in her 90th birthday with a chocolate ice cream cake.
