Aurora Police Warn of Planned ‘Takeover’ at Town Center Mall: “Expect to Be Arrested”

Aurora police are issuing a firm warning ahead of a rumored “takeover” event reportedly being organized by juveniles at the Town Center at Aurora this weekend. The department says anyone planning to cause disruption should “expect to be arrested.”

The warning comes amid a troubling trend in Colorado, where large groups of teens have organized via social media to meet at public places, often resulting in violence, chaos, and hospitalizations. Similar incidents have occurred recently, including one at The Shops at Northfield, where an estimated 300 juveniles stormed the area, entered businesses, and engaged in fights. Several teens were injured in that event.

Another incident earlier this summer prompted the Denver Zoo Conservation Alliance to close early after rumors of a planned takeover circulated online. Although a strong police presence at City Park prevented that gathering, the threat of future events remains active.

The potential danger was made clear when a teenage girl was hospitalized with severe head injuries after practicing with friends for a previous takeover. Her father, speaking with FOX31, said, “No parent thinks when their 14-year-old asks if they can go to the movies or hang out with friends, it’s going to turn into something like this.”

Now, the Aurora Police Department is taking a proactive stance, announcing a zero-tolerance policy ahead of this weekend’s rumored event at the Town Center, located on East Alameda Avenue. Officers will have a visible presence at the mall, including patrol officers, special units, and a mobile command post on site.

“Aurora Police is taking this seriously,” the department said in a social media statement. “If you’re coming to shop, dine, or spend time with family—you are welcome. If you’re coming to cause disruption, expect to be arrested.”

Police also confirmed they will be monitoring other major retail areas across the city to prevent additional incidents and ensure public safety.
